Choosing unique color schemes for your home is vital since it can impact the way your home looks and feels. Whether you are remodelling the whole house or painting a single room, opting for any single color scheme is difficult. Knowing where to start might be challenging since you know there is a diversity of colors, hues, and tints, to choose from. Nothing daunted, however, you can still put your best foot forward. We will see that choosing the right color scheme can be an impactful tool for transforming any place.

How do you Go about Choosing Color schemes for your home?

Of course, we will repeat the oft-repeated advice that you should not get overwhelmed by the abundance of colors, hues, shades and tints available. There’s no point getting stuck in the color wheel, or abstract theories.

You just have to sort out what feels right for you. We would like you to have fun deciding the color schemes!

Having put that behind us, you do need to have a couple of favoured colors. In case you have never given that a thought, how about choosing your favourite fabric’s color to furbish your walls with? Perhaps you have a blanket that had a particular color that you would not mind spreading across walls?

Consider the type of atmosphere you wish to convey through the chosen color. Would you like it to feel relaxing? Or would you like drama in color? Perhaps minimalism is more your thing?

Color scheme types

There are broadly speaking four types of color schemes :

Monochromatic Color Scheme

If you want to give a modern look without too much of a show, monochromatic color schemes would suit you. You will be using different shades of the same color. On choosing blue, your shades will range from pale blue to navy.

Analogous scheme

Analogous color scheme translates as harmonious. You would not look for drama but look for predictability and a relaxing environment. colors next to each other on the color wheel would be just your thing. colors closely related to each other, orange/yellow or blue/green, would fit this description.

Complementary scheme

If you are set on opting for bold, lively colors then a complementary color scheme is what you are looking for. blue /orange would complement each other just right.

Contrast

Ultimately, there’s a contrast color scheme called triad. Triadic color schemes use three colors that are evenly distributed on the color wheel. For you to use such a triadic color scheme with success, you will let one dominate and use the other two for providing the accent. You will then have the balance you are looking for.

Choosing unique color schemes for your entire home

You cannot paint every room a different color.

Neutrals

Keep the wall color neutral. If you like changing decor often, the wall colors will not pose a problem. Moreover, the accent change would be easy to see.

There are warm neutrals and cool neutrals. Warm neutrals are beige, blush, ivory, sand. Cool neutrals are blue, grey and white.

Saturated Color

After choosing your neutral, you have to choose a saturated color for that statement. Despite their name, saturated colors can come in light shades as well. These could be variations on the accent colors you chose earlier.

One more Color from your chosen color scheme

If you went for a monochromatic color scheme, you would be best advised to choose a lighter shade of color 3.

If you opted for a harmonious color scheme, you would find the color next to color 3 on the color wheel best suited to your project.

If you went for the complementary color scheme, find color 3 on the color wheel. Then, move directly across the wheel and choose the color there, or one adjacent to it.

Accent Color

The accent color could be the accent in one room, the main color in another. You can use this differently in each room, given that you have chosen one specific color scheme.

Conclusion

You opt for a neutral color that acts as your preferred color for walls connecting rooms. We are talking halls and living spaces. The saturated color gives your rooms that bit of drama. This does not have to be the same as the color on the walls. Per your color scheme now you go for yet another color. The accent color could be the accent in one, but the main color in another room. If it works better for your space, feel free to change the shade of a particular color. Importantly, you ought to have the same colors or shades of those colors appearing throughout your home. A cohesive and continuous presentation would round off the picture.
